Constitutional values and social change - the case of German marital and family law

The correlation between a Constitution's basic rights and the values of the society it is intended to regulate is vital to the Constitutions's legitimacy. This requires that the Constitution is able to adapt to social change. How can a written Constitution - and basic rights in particular - keep pace with social change? This article examining this issue in the context of German marriage and family law.
