INTER-PROFESSIONAL TENSIONS IN THE DIVORCE PROCESS IN FRANCE

* Centre de Sociologie des Organisation, 19 rue Amelie, 75007 Paris, France. This article is based on a paper given at the Third European Conference on Legal Professions, Rouen, France, in July 1994.

This article hypothesizes that the practice of professionals involved in divorce evolves according to changes in family life, which require professionals to adapt to their clients' needs in order to maintain their corner of the market. These adaptations also lead to modifications in the relationships between the professional groups. The article explores this hypothesis in the context of empirical work conducted with respect to the divorce process in France.
